On the warm and sunny afternoon of Saturday, July 15th, 21-year old Avril Lavigne wed her boyfriend of two years, Sum 41 singer 26-year old Deryck Whibley. To the surprise of Lavigne's fans who watched her hit the music scene in her tomboyish, grunge style, Lavigne's wedding was not only very traditional, it was quite classy and beautiful.
Of particular note in the ceremony and reception were the exquisite flowers that added a romantic and fragrant touch to the ceremony, and a playful, Goth look to the reception. To achieve both looks, Lavigne and Whibley used somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 roses!
The ceremony featured hundreds of white roses arranged in an arch over the beaming couple. Lavigne carried a large, traditional bouquet of white roses with the stems wrapped in a white ribbon. Her bridesmaids carried similar bouquets of pink roses. During the cocktail hour prior to the reception, the flowers on display were a lovely mix of both blush and white roses, which later gave way to brilliant red roses to set off black accents and create the Goth look of the reception.
While most brides can't afford to purchase 10,000 roses for weddings, and may not even have a notion of how to use them if they could, they can save significant amounts of money and frustration by doing such simple things as selecting a Friday rather than a Saturday for the big event and choosing a florist who provides consultation services.
